Design:Z.A.R. Coat of ArmsInscription:½ Pond 1893Remarks:All coins minted in Pretoria portray a single shaft oxwagon and the front wheels are smaller than the back ones. The colour of these coins is a reddish and yellowish gold. This applies to all the Kruger Pond and Half Pond coins. As there is no official record of an 1892 single shaft half Pond we assume one does not exist. One such coin did however make its appearance but is thought to be a counterfeit.
A Brief History
In 1894 the first single-shaft half ponde were minted in the Republic and these bore the 1893 and 1894 dates. “The first single-shafted half-pounds issued bear the year 1893, and of these there are really very few, so that today they are the rarest of all the normal Kruger coins” – Dr FK Mitchell
