Crest: the seated female figure of Hope with a lamb and and anchor at her feet. The shield supported by two mythological antelope (supposed to be a black wildebeestleft and a gemsbok right). Below on a ribbon intertwined with laurel sprays, the motto Spes Bona. THE LONG HORN TYPE, where the horns of the right hand antelope protude deep into the legend between the D&H and the head of hope is between the G & O in the inscription. |
Reverse: | (1) | Cape of Good Hope Arms. Similar to above but the horns and manes of the supporters differ, the distance of the inscription from the pearled border differs as does the figure of Hope.
